Our work works! Help seals promote your tourist business across the SW and beyond!
We love grey seals – they are amazingly beautiful and the SW’s iconic, globally rare speciality species. By identifying the unique fur patterns of each individual seal, we can monitor their health and activities, checking that they can continue to thrive in the SW, attracting tourists and boosting our financial economy.
CSGRT have recently won two prestigious awards ‘Cornwall Volunteers’ and a ‘Cornwall Sustainability Award’ and have had a scientific paper accepted for publication by the Journal of the Marine Biological Association. We have just re-identified eight seals first sighted in 2000, that’s nearly 20 years ago! Our research has told the world there is no such thing as an average seal; they don’t live in static colonies and seals swim from Cornwall to Devon, Dorset, Wales, France and Ireland! Our evidence is requested by statutory agencies and used for policy and planning to protect seals and their precious marine environment.
Thanks to a People’s Postcode Lottery grant we have created a mobile ‘pop up’ marine centre for a ‘Sharing our Seas’ Roadshow. All our exhibits are wonderfully informative with gazebos, indoor and outdoor banners, flags, artwork, artefacts, filmshows along with ‘Septimus’ (a skeleton of a 2.4m seal we knew in life) and a brand new 360 degree, 3D Virtual Reality experience.
Pilot exhibitions at schools, visitor attractions, community centres, festivals and conferences have been inspirational – helping all ages understand how together we can act to make a better future for us all. Our tour is booking fast with events already planned from the Isles of Scilly to Lundy and Somerset.
We need your business to support us to continue this important work! Will you become our partner, gaining rewards whilst marketing your business throughout the SW and beyond? As a business supporter, your logo will also feature online (our website and social media) and be displayed at all our talks and events. One of our recent facebook posts reached 249, 918 people and in one year we have delivered 50 free talks, presented at 52 public events from the Isles of Scilly to London and spoken on six international conference calls. We have lots of other inspirational opportunities on offer for your staff and customers and we are always open to any exciting suggestions of ways to collaborate with businesses.
